The community aims to support conservation architects in India by providing professional membership, maintaining high ethical standards, and promoting recognition in the field of Heritage Conservation. It seeks to advance the study and public awareness of Heritage Conservation, address related challenges, and advocate for legal reforms. Additionally, the community aims to collaborate with governmental and private sectors, establish a knowledge base, and manage a library of archival materials, while accepting donations to further its mission.

A registered architect who has acquired a range of additional competences which qualify him/her to practice in the more highly specialised areas of building conservation. Specialization can include repairing historic buildings, adapting or extending them for new uses, preparing conservation management plans, condition assessment, sourcing specialist materials and conservators, guiding clients in scoping and budgeting for conservation work, assessing the development potential of historic sites, obtaining planning, listed building and conservation area consents and many other activities. Conservation architects play a crucial role in ensuring that historic buildings and cultural heritage sites are preserved, appreciated, and adapted for contemporary needs, contributing to the enrichment of cultural landscapes and the sustainable use of architectural heritage.
